Islamabad Police Arrest Imaan Mazari and Husband for ‘Interference in Government Operations’

Prominent human rights lawyer Imaan Mazari and her husband were arrested in Islamabad, confirmed her mother, former federal minister Shireen Mazari, on Monday. Sources revealed to Geo News that the couple’s arrest is related to a case filed at Aabpara Police Station, involving alleged interference in government operations.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Shireen Mazari criticized the arrest, accusing authorities of “state fascism.” She claimed that police deliberately injured her daughter by swinging a steel barrier into her during a previous altercation, which was partially captured on video.

The arrest follows an incident at the Islamabad Zero Point Interchange where Imaan and her husband reportedly clashed with traffic police after attempting to remove road barriers set up for the England cricket team’s security protocol. The English team, in Pakistan for a three-match Test series, had its final game scheduled at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

According to sources, the scuffle escalated when Imaan’s husband allegedly assaulted the officers and issued threats, while Imaan maintained she was in a rush to reach court. Islamabad police noted the couple’s actions violated security protocols and had warned of possible legal action.
