Imran Khan Hopes for ‘Positivity’ in US-Pakistan Relations with Trump’s Return

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Ali Muhammad revealed that PTI’s incarcerated founder, Imran Khan, anticipates a positive shift in US-Pakistan relations as Donald Trump prepares for a second term in the White House. Imran reportedly foresees a more favorable stance towards Pakistan, contrasting what he called the “negativity” under President Joe Biden’s administration.

Speaking on Geo News program “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath,” Ali shared that upon learning of Trump’s victory, Imran reflected on the cooperative ties he held with the US during his own term as Pakistan’s prime minister. Imran reportedly linked recent diplomatic strains to interference under Biden’s leadership, a sentiment PTI has expressed since Imran’s ouster in April 2022, which the party attributes to alleged foreign interference.

Trump’s electoral win followed a controversial campaign and promises potential changes in global relations. Ali Muhammad noted that PTI supporters abroad view this as a promising development that may ease Pakistan’s political challenges. “There will be an impact once the Trump administration takes charge, and it could reduce the negativity,” he added.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif commented during a special Geo News transmission on the US election that Pakistan’s government does not expect Trump to intervene in Imran’s legal matters. PTI leader Raoof Hasan reinforced that the party’s efforts for Imran’s release rely on Pakistan’s judiciary and domestic political action, rather than Trump’s influence.
