Former P@SHA chairperson Muhammad Zohaib Khan clarified that only illegal VPNs are being banned in Pakistan, aligning with global practices. Approved VPNs, such as those used by companies for international projects, are whitelisted by the PTA, and freelancers can also apply for approval.
He emphasized that national security concerns necessitate curbing illegal VPNs often misused for activities like blackmail or terrorism. Khan urged the government to implement “cyber fencing” and launch awareness campaigns to protect Pakistan’s IT reputation.
The Wireless & Internet Service Providers Association of Pakistan (WISPAP) also called for balanced VPN regulations, ensuring progress and data security remain unhindered.
