HYDERABAD: Senior and popular Noha Khawan Agha Syed Mehr Ali Shah has expressed serious concern over the slow pace of government-funded development work at the shrine of Masooma-e-Sindh at Agham Kot, urging the contractor to avoid actions that could create discord and instead accelerate work for the earliest possible completion of the project.
In a statement, he said that ahead of Muharram-ul-Haram, large excavations and exposed steel reinforcement around the shrine had created serious concerns regarding the safety and movement of mourners arriving from across the country. Following protests and concerns raised by Anjuman Sipah-e-Qaim-e-Aal-e-Muhammad (A.S.), Tando Jam, and other Azadari organisations, conditions at some locations were improved. However, he said, the overall pace of construction remained unsatisfactory.
Agha Syed Mehr Ali Shah stressed that development work at a sacred place such as the shrine should not be delayed because of personal interests, disputes or unnecessary controversies. All concerned should rise above differences and ensure timely completion of the project so that safe and improved facilities could be provided to pilgrims and mourners.
He termed it encouraging that Chief Administrator Auqaf Hyderabad Mukhtar Hussain Abro had taken notice of the situation and dispatched an inspection team to the shrine on Tuesday. The team reviewed the ongoing development work and directed the concerned officials and contractor to accelerate construction and take necessary measures for the project’s early completion.
Welcoming the intervention, Agha Syed Mehr Ali Shah expressed hope that the Auqaf Department would continue to closely monitor progress and ensure that the project faced no further unnecessary delays.
He also appealed to all stakeholders to avoid disputes and give top priority to the sanctity of the shrine, safety of pilgrims and timely completion of the development work.
