LAS VEGAS: Hollywood actor Johnny Depp attracted attention at a Las Vegas after-party over the weekend after appearing to bite artificial leaves from a decorative wall while posing for photographers.
Depp, 63, attended an event at Park MGM on Saturday night celebrating his rum brand, Three Hearts, during Drink Las Vegas.
Videos from the gathering showed the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star posing for cameras while holding a drink. He was dressed in a dark outfit with a brown wide-brimmed hat, tinted glasses, a loose bandana around his neck and several large rings.
During the photo session, Depp approached a backdrop covered with artificial greenery and pressed his face into the display. He emerged with what appeared to be a decorative leaf in his mouth as photographers continued taking pictures.
The actor appeared to spit out the leaf before returning to the display for another playful bite. In another moment captured on video, Depp raised his glass and smiled while two leaves appeared to protrude from his teeth.
Other footage from the event showed the actor clinking glasses and interacting with guests. He was later seen seated at a table and talking with other attendees.
The appearance comes as Depp continues to participate in high-profile public events and promote new film projects following his widely publicised defamation case involving his former wife, actress Amber Heard.
In July, Depp made a surprise appearance at Comic-Con to promote “Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol.” He appeared in costume as the story’s central character, wearing prosthetics, grey facial hair and a pronounced brow.
Meanwhile, producer Jerry Bruckheimer said in August that discussions were underway with Depp over a possible return as Captain Jack Sparrow in a future instalment of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.
Bruckheimer said talks with Depp were continuing while work on a screenplay was also in progress, raising the possibility of the actor returning to one of his most famous roles.
