Germany Offers Fully Funded DAAD Scholarships to Pakistani Students

BERLIN: Germany is offering fully funded DAAD EPOS scholarships to qualified students from developing countries, including Pakistan, providing an opportunity to pursue development-related postgraduate studies at selected German universities.

Under the current opportunity, eligible Pakistani students can apply for the MSc in Environmental Governance at the University of Freiburg. The two-year, English-taught programme is scheduled to begin in October 2027.

Applications must be submitted by October 15, 2026.

Monthly Stipend and Financial Support

The DAAD EPOS Scholarship provides master’s students with a monthly stipend of €992, while PhD candidates can receive up to €1,400 per month during their funding period.

Depending on individual circumstances and programme conditions, the scholarship may also cover health, accident and personal liability insurance, provide a travel allowance and offer rent subsidies.

Additional allowances may be available for accompanying family members in eligible cases.

Scholarship recipients may also be exempt from the €1,500-per-semester study fee normally applicable to non-EU students under the programme’s stated conditions.

MSc Environmental Governance

The University of Freiburg’s MSc in Environmental Governance is a two-year programme comprising four semesters and 120 ECTS credits. It is taught in English and is open to eligible Pakistani applicants.

The DAAD EPOS programme primarily targets young professionals from developing and newly industrialised countries.

Applicants are generally required to hold a recognised bachelor’s degree obtained no more than six years before applying and must have at least two years of relevant professional experience after completing their undergraduate degree.

Internships and voluntary work generally do not count towards the professional experience requirement.

Academic Requirements

Candidates are expected to have a strong academic record, generally placing them within the upper third of their graduating class.

For the Environmental Governance programme, applicants should normally have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with a grade equivalent to 2.5 or better under the German grading system.

Relevant fields include environmental sciences, environmental management, agriculture, forestry, geography, political science, sociology, law, economics, development studies and natural resource management.

Applicants must also demonstrate English-language proficiency in accordance with the University of Freiburg’s admission requirements.

Prospective Pakistani applicants should carefully review the programme-specific eligibility criteria and documentation requirements before submitting their applications.
