In the first semifinal of the Top End T20 tournament, Pakistan Shaheens were defeated by the Adelaide Strikers by 30 runs. Despite a valiant effort from Mohammad Abbas Afridi, who scored a quick 54 and took three wickets earlier, the Shaheens fell short in their chase of 198 runs.
The Shaheens’ chase faltered early, losing key wickets quickly and slipping to 33-4 within 4.1 overs. Although contributions from Mubasir Khan, Usman Khan, and Abbas helped the team make a fight of it, they were eventually dismissed for 167 in 18.1 overs.
Adelaide Strikers’ opener Jake Winter’s century (104 off 61 balls) and Harry Manenti’s half-century (52 off 32) set a formidable total. Winter was supported by a crucial 73-run partnership with Manenti, which propelled the Strikers’ total after an initial collapse.
Liam Scott led the Strikers’ bowling attack with three wickets, supported by Jordan Buckingham, Lloyd Pope, Tim Oakley, Tim O’Connell, and Noah Mcfayden who also contributed to the dismissal of the Shaheens’ batters.
This semifinal defeat concluded Pakistan Shaheens’ tour of Darwin, which included a series of matches against Bangladesh ‘A’ and NT Strike, finishing with five wins and two losses in the Top End T20 series.
