Admiral Jawad Ahmed
Special Report
KARACHI: Rear Admiral Jawad Ahmed, while flouting and in violation of the interim order by the Sindh High Court, assumed charge of Chairman Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) on Friday 30th September 2022.
Current PNSC Chairman Rizwan Ahmed had filed a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court against a summary which was moved by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs for his premature removal as Rizwan was previously appointed by the federal government for a term ending on 3rd December, 2023. The Sindh High Court had passed interim order dated 2nd August 2022 whereby it was ordered that any order passed in summary as proposed would be subject to outcome of the petition.
The latest hearing of the case was held on 15th September 2022, whereby the court had continued the operation of the interim order dated 2nd August 2022 and adjourned the case to 13th October 2022. It is further noted that Establishment Division, through notification dated 5th August 2022, had also appointed Admiral Jawad as the new Chairman PNSC subject and conditional to the outcome of the petition in the Sindh High Court, which is still pending.
However on Friday, Rear Admiral Jawad Ahmed while disregarding the SHC interim order came to PNSC Headquarters and assumed the charge of Chairman. Current PNSC Chairman Rizwan Ahmed did not relinquish the charge of the office in line of the Sindh High Court interim order and Establishment Division notification dated 5th August 2022 which clearly mentions that the appointment of Admiral Jawad is subject to the final outcome of the petition.
