Some victories which Pakistan cricket team achieved is memorable as every cricket lover remember the victory at Oval. Likewise some defeats are unacceptable such as Pakistan cricket team recent defeat in the first test against England in the three Test match 2020 series, at Old Trafford. Now Pakistan has lost seven consecutive away tests since beating England at Lord’s in 2018.
It is the defeat of the policy and selection of the team by the management of PCB, where all shots are called by the Chief Selector, Head Coach and Batting Coach Misbah ul Haq. Misbah must be licking the wounds after the defeat, after a post-match media talk, Misbah said that we feel frustrated, yes Misbah you are frustrated because despite having all the powers there is a question mark on your performance.
The writing was very much on the wall, Captain Azhar Ali was your choice and his performance and body language was very disturbing during the last session of the test match. He lost his nerves, could not guide the bowlers, seemed to be in a state of shock and notably devastated by the sixth wicket partnership between Chris Woakes and Jos Butler. Azhar Ali has no plan to dislodge the partnership of Butler and Woakes which put 139 runs for the sixth wicket for England. What was in the mind of the selectors for going with two spinners, and the irony is that Shadab Khan was under bowled and the captain gave him only 11.3 overs in the entire match.
Azhar Ali has played 78 tests but he is not consistent and lacks form especially during pressure. His performance during Old Trafford test was poor due to which the moral of the players was affected, as captain is not only binding force but also motivates the players by his performance. Azhar Ali has to learn how to take decisions in a tense situation.
All games have tense situation and cricket is no exception. Had Azhar Ali has kept cool and asked his fast bowlers to have a go with flurry of bouncers and short pitched delivery to Woakes in the initially stage of his innings, their might have been possibility of getting him out earlier.
Pakistani bowlers bowled well, spinner Yasir Shah once again proved his worth with his highly dedicated performance. In batting Shan Masood played exceedingly well and showed his patience and good technique by not scoring a century and remaining in the crease for eight hours.
Prior to the first test match, PCB could not arrange any side match with county team or club due to which Pakistan team played intra team matches which could not be substitute for the preparation for test match.
Except the last session of the Old Trafford test, Pakistan was in command, they have a lead in the first innings of 107 runs, in the second innings England were struggling at 117 for 5. A victory was snatched from Pakistan team by England and turned it into a defeat due to the policies of PCB, Alas! PCB lost.
