Ayesha Mumtaz, a schoolgirl from Sargodha, Pakistan, has won a bronze medal at the ongoing Asian Junior and School Boxing Championship in Al Ain City, Abu Dhabi. Competing in the pinweight (46kg) category, Mumtaz secured her place in the semi-finals with a notable victory over Thi Hong Yen Nguyen of Vietnam in the quarterfinals. Her performance not only guarantees her a bronze medal but also marks a historic achievement as she becomes the second female Pakistani boxer to win a medal at the Asian Boxing Championships, following Hadiya Kamal’s bronze in 2022. Mumtaz’s technical prowess, including effective left-handed hooks and well-executed attacks, highlighted her exceptional skills. The Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) has praised Mumtaz’s achievement and emphasized the importance of her success for Pakistani boxing, with PBF President Muhammad Khalid Mahmood extending congratulations to the boxer, her coach, and her family.
