Bilawal Bhutto Pledges to Establish Federal Constitutional Court for Judicial Reforms

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has reiterated his commitment to establishing a federal constitutional court in the country. Speaking at the Sindh High Court Bar Association, Bilawal argued that such a court is essential to ensure judicial reforms, particularly for fair representation among the provinces and a more efficient judicial system.

Bilawal noted that the need for this court was emphasized in the **Charter of Democracy (COD)** and criticized past decisions, including his grandfather Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s execution, which he referred to as a “judicial murder.” The PPP leader also criticized past military regimes and certain judges, stating that these systems had undermined the judicial process.

He emphasized that a **federal constitutional court (FCC)** would focus on constitutional issues, which currently occupy the bulk of the Supreme Court’s time, despite representing only a small portion of overall cases. To ensure fairness, Bilawal proposed rotating the position of Chief Justice of the FCC, allowing each province to have equal representation.

Bilawal’s statements underscore the PPP’s historical focus on judicial reforms, stemming from its experiences under military rule and its efforts to enhance provincial representation and justice in Pakistan.
