Bilawal, Rana Sanaullah Appointed to Judicial Commission of Pakistan

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah have been appointed as members of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) from the treasury benches following the commission’s reconstitution.
According to a notification issued with the approval of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, who also chairs the commission, the appointments were made under Article 175A(2)(vii) of the Constitution.
The notification said the nominations were made by the leaders of the house in the Senate and the National Assembly.
The seats had fallen vacant following the resignations of senior lawyer Farooq H. Naek and PML-N MNA Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, who stepped down from the commission citing personal reasons.
Under the new arrangement, the PPP has secured representation from the National Assembly, while the PML-N has been given representation from the Senate.
Meanwhile, the reported deadlock between the PML-N and PPP over cooperation on legislation has been resolved, according to sources.
The PPP has agreed to support the government on legislative matters in both the National Assembly and Senate in the coming period, the sources said.
The two coalition partners have also agreed to establish a parliamentary committee on electoral reforms, with its chairmanship to be given to the PPP.
According to the sources, representatives of all political parties having seats in Parliament will be included in the committee, while representation in both houses will be determined according to each party’s numerical strength.
