Birth anniversary of Shaheed Hakim Said is observed with the imple but graceful events
KARACHI: Several simple but graceful events were held on Thursday to mark the birth anniversary of Shaheed Hakim Mohammed Said, the martyred founder of Hamdard Foundation Pakistan and Hamdard University (HU), at Madinat al-Hikmah, the main campus of the university, says a Press release.
The day began with recitation of the Holy Quran at the mausoleum of Hakim Said, after which Fateha was offered by the students and staff of the university, who were led by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Shabib-ul-Hasan. A memorial ceremony was then held at the Hamdard Public School, which was also attended by Hakim Said’s daughter and HU’s Chancellor Madam Sadia Rashid.
The chief guest on the occasion was Prof Dr Ahsana Dar and the guest of honour was Accountant General of Sindh Baber Khan. The other prominent personalities present on the occasion were HU’s Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shabib-ul-Hasan, Registrar Kaleem A. Ghias, Hamdard Foundation Pakistan’s Director Syed M. Arsalan, HFP’s Adviser Sumera Javed, Syed Mansoob Ahmed, Shakila Khurram, Saleem Farooqi, and Alia Kashif Azimi.
An exhibition of calligraphic pieces prepared by the students of the university and arranged at Bait al-Hikmah was inaugurated by Madam Sadia. She expressed delight over the high quality of some of the paintings on display.
A brief citation describing the life and achievements of the martyred visionary was read out on the occasion. Hakim Said – who was instrumental in reviving Unani medicine in Pakistan and launching a number of educational institutions and business and philanthropic ventures – was born on Jan 9, 1920 in Delhi. He was assassinated by unknown gunmen on October 17, 1998.
