KARACHI: The Pakistan Budget 2026-27 prioritizes the IT sector with a Rs 19.58 billion Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) allocation, emphasizing 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and export growth. Key highlights include maintaining the 0.25% tax rate on IT exports for three more years and expanding digital infrastructure, targeting $4.5 billion in exports.
Wali Shah, Founder and CEO of Projector Union, has welcomed the Federal Budget 2026-27, expressing satisfaction over the government’s legislative measures and funding allocations aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s information technology and digital transformation agenda.
Commenting on the budget, Shah said the government’s focus on technology development, digital infrastructure, and innovation reflects a positive policy direction that can accelerate Pakistan’s transition toward a knowledge-based economy.
Prior to the budget announcement, Shah had called for greater support for the country’s audio-visual technology,educational equipment, and presentation solutions sector, highlighting the importance of digital learning systems, smart classrooms, conference technologies, and modern communication infrastructure.
Shah says “The allocation of resources for information technology and related initiatives demonstrates recognition of the role technology plays in economic development, education modernization, and productivity enhancement.”
According to Shah, Pakistan’s audio-visual and multimedia technology sector serves as an important enabler of digital transformation across educational institutions, corporate organizations, government departments, and public-sector projects.
The Projector Union chief also emphasized the importance of ensuring that implementation mechanisms remain business-friendly. He said continued efforts to simplify regulatory procedures, facilitate technology imports, and improve access to financing would further strengthen the sector’s ability to contribute to national development goals.
He reiterated that small and medium-sized enterprises operating within the technology supply chain should remain a priority area for policymakers. According to Shah, targeted support for SMEs, along with technical skills development programs, can help create employment opportunities and enhance the competitiveness of local businesses.
Shah further observed that Pakistan’s future competitiveness will increasingly depend on its capacity to embrace emerging technologies and modern communication systems. He expressed hope that the budget’s technology-focused initiatives would encourage greater investment in educational technology, digital collaboration tools, and professional audio-visual solutions.
