The Ambassador assured support for a business delegation and suggested announcing the launch of Pakistan Azerbaijan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Exploring trade opportunities, Minister Jam Kamal Khan suggested importing cotton from Azerbaijan for processing in Pakistan, with plans to export high-end garments to Cambodia.
The Ambassador offered to connect Pakistan with Azerbaijan’s leading cotton producers and highlighted mutual trade opportunities in agriculture and technology.
Both sides celebrated the doubling of trade volume compared to the previous year and emphasized building on this momentum.
The Minister invited Azerbaijan to participate in the upcoming Foodag exhibition in Lahore, while the Ambassador reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to establishing strong trade and investment links by sharing contacts of prominent businesses.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to achieving successful outcomes, prioritizing the establishment of the Trade House and Chamber of Commerce as cornerstones of bilateral trade relations.
This collaboration marks a significant step toward deepening Pakistan-Azerbaijan economic ties, with both nations aiming to create long-term partnerships and explore new avenues for trade and investment.

No any plans to remove Ali Amin Gandapur as KP’s CM: Asad Qaiser

Central leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Asad Qaiser has, during the week, emphasized that there are no plans to replace the KP Chief Minister at this stage, asserting that Ali Amin Gandapur will remain the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

“The KP province is currently facing significant challenges and there is no talk of removing Ali Amin Gandapur as the KP CM him at the moment,” former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser stated during an interview with a private TV Channel.
Qaiser went on to reveal that he had met with PTI founder Imran Khan to discuss party matters, explaining that the newly-appointed provincial president would be responsible for making changes to other positions within the party.
Reflecting on his political journey, Qaiser recalled his decision to step down as the elected provincial president after becoming the Speaker of the National Assembly.
“It was decided that official and party posts should be separated, so I left my party position after a year and a half,” he elaborated, mentioning the changes within PTI’s leadership, citing that Pervez Khattak resigned as Secretary General and was replaced by Jahangir Tareen, while Azam Swati took over as provincial president in Qaiser’s place.
Qaiser made it clear that he does not belong to any specific faction within the party, stating, “I am in Imran Khan’s group.” He reiterated his loyalty to PTI and Imran Khan, saying, “Imran Khan is PTI.”
The former NA speaker hinted at further changes within the party structure, confirming that the new provincial president will be instrumental in reshuffling other party positions.

The 45th Anniversary of the Glorious Victory of the Islamic Revolution of Iran and the National Day was celebrated in the Federal Capital, during the week.
The caretaker Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, in his address on the occasion, said Pakistan and Iran enjoy cordial relations adding this relationship shall further be strengthened even in the days to come. He said both the countries believe in a serious engagement and hoped to continue bilateral cooperation at various forums.
Ambassador of Iran Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam, in his address, said Pakistan was the first country to recognize the Islamic Republic of Iran after the victory of the revolution. The ties between the two countries have been established in such a way that there has been no territorial and border dispute between the two, and now we have strong relations in various fields.
He said, having been built upon such solid foundations and given Iran’s foreign policy to accord priority to neighbors, ephemeral incidents can never fluctuate the relations between the two countries.
“Our two countries have close viewpoints on many regional, international, and Islamic world issues, and closely cooperate and mutually support each other in the regional and international organizations and forums.
“Considerable steps have been taken in bilateral economic and trade relations over the recent years. The approach of developing relations with the neighbors by Dr. Raiisi, the Honorable President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has given more momentum to these relations. The opening of common border crossings points and common border markets, one of which was inaugurated last year with the presence of the heads of the two governments, was a manifestation of the economic relations’ enhancement and constitutes a fundamental development to connect the important ports of Karachi and Gwadar with the strategic port of Chabahar in Iran. Last year, the trade value between the two countries exceeded 2.5 billion dollars last year, and the two countries aim to reach the figure of 5 billion dollars.
“The Islamic Revolution of Iran was called the most important event of the 20th century and brought a new discourse to the political literature of the world. Self-confidence, and political, cultural, and economic independence were the gifts of the Islamic Revolution and the main elements of the said discourse.
“Based upon this discourse, my country at the national level has made tremendous scientific, industrial, cultural, medical, and technological achievements, including nanotechnology and fundamental cells, nuclear technology for peaceful uses, and aerospace technology for peaceful uses of outer space, despite the obstacles created by arrogant powers.
“At the regional and international levels, the Islamic Republic of Iran has pursued the independent foreign policy and the support of the Muslim world, the effects of which can be seen in the all-round support for the Palestinian cause and the legitimate struggles of the Palestinians and the Resistance Front against the Zionists Regime to prevent the materialization of its dream for occupying a larger part of the Islamic world.

A solemn event dedicated to the 80th ?nniversary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic and the 100th ?nniversary of the formation of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region was held at the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, here, during the week.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Ulanbek Totuiaev. in his address on the occasion, provided detailed information on the formation of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Oblast and bilateral relations between two countries.
The Ambassador informed that today Kyrgyzstan is aimed at strengthening interaction with the countries of the region. Noting the importance of promoting cooperation with Pakistan, he proposed focusing on the development of cultural-humanitarian cooperation as the most promising connecting element between the two friendly countries.

Author and journalist Mohammed Hanif has announced Saturday to return Sitara-e-Imtiaz, the third-highest civilian award of Pakistan, back to the State in protest over the violence meted out to Baloch marchers, during the week.
Reacting to a video of a Baloch girl pleading with the authorities for the “right to live”, Hanif lambasted the authorities for mistreatment of the Baloch protesters saying he was ashamed to witness a new generation being denied basic dignity.
“In protest, returning my Sitara-e-Imtiaz, given to me by a state that continues to abduct and torture Baloch citizens. Journalists of my generation have seen @SammiBaluch and @MahrangBaloch_ grow up in protest camps. Ashamed to witness a new generation being denied basic dignity,” Hanif wrote on his X account.
Hanif – a journalist, novelist, and playwright known for his famous work “A Case of Exploding Mangoes” – was honoured with the third-highest civilian award in Pakistan back in 2018.
His remarks come after marchers (led by women) protesting against enforced disappearances of Baloch men, under the banner of Baloch Yakjehti Council (BYC), reached Islamabad and were subsequently subjected to baton-charge and mass arrests by the Islamabad Police.
The crackdown triggered widespread condemnations from human rights bodies and political parties.

Sirajul Haq commends Tehran’s support for the Palestinian Muslims

Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Sirajul Haq has appreciated Tehran’s support for Palestinian Muslims, hoping leaders in the Muslim world would adopt a similar strong stance in solidarity with the people of Gaza, who are resisting the atrocities of Israeli forces.
He was talking to Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghaddam who called on him during the week and discussed Pakistan-Iran relations, regional situation and matters of mutual interests. JI Foreign Affairs Director Asif Luqman Qazi was also present in the meeting.
Sirajul Haq emphasized that the positive relations between Pakistan and Iran bring benefits to both nations, stressing the need for the two Muslim neighbors to enhance economic ties for regional prosperity and development.
He identified the presence of US forces in different regions as a primary cause of instability and security deterioration. He criticized Washington’s unethical and illegal support for Israel, attributing it to the killing and genocide carried out by Tel Aviv forces in Gaza. Despite global demonstrations and calls for a ceasefire by the UN, Israeli forces continued their violent actions in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of thousands, including children and women. He lamented the world’s inability to stop these atrocities.
Moghaddam expressed that Pak-Iran relations are based on mutual respect and Muslim brotherhood. He commended JI’s role in supporting Palestinians, viewing the party’s efforts positively. He also appreciated Haq’s role in promoting sectarian harmony.

In compliance with court directives, incarcerated PTI Chairman Imran Khan was allowed Saturday to talk to sons on telephone from Adiala Jail.
According to sources, the emotional exchange left both of Khan’s sons – Qasim and Sulaiman deeply moved.
During the call, the former prime minister was observed smiling and offering words of consolation to his sons in an effort to uplift their spirits.
According to sources in the jail, this special telephonic interaction took place via WhatsApp, commencing at 4:30pm and lasting until 5:00pm. The arrangement was made in accordance with the orders of Special Court Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain.
It’s worth noting that the same judge had issued the order on Wednesday, permitting Imran Khan to engage in telephonic conversations with his sons, who reside in the United Kingdom with the former PM’s ex-wife, Jemima Goldsmith.
The application for this arrangement had been submitted by the PTI chief through his counsel, Shiraz Ahmed Ranjha.
Imran Khan is currently detained at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail and is facing trial under the Official Secrets Act, 1923. He is accused of allegedly misusing a diplomatic cypher during his last days as prime minister.
Prior to his incarceration at Adiala Jail, Imran had been held at Attock Jail after his conviction in the Toshakhana case on August 5. Subsequently, the Islamabad High Court suspended his sentence, but he was not released and was shifted to Adiala Jail due to his judicial remand in the cypher case under the Official Secrets Act.
Notably, the Superintendent of the jail had initially refused to allow Imran Khan to communicate with his sons, citing the prohibition of phone calls for individuals charged under the Official Secrets Act, as per the jail manual. However, the court emphasized the need for the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to be provided for arranging such telephonic conversations, and the matter was to be discussed once the SOPs were received.
Imran Khan’s counsel raised concerns about the delay in providing the SOPs.

78th Indonesian Independence & Armed Forces Day celebrated

He said that Indonesian National Armed Forces Day are an integral part of this consistent struggle for a more progressive and prosperous Indonesia with their motto of ‘Three services, One Determination’, reflecting strong spirit of mutual cooperation among three military services.
Talking about Indonesia-Pakistan relations, he said the growing two-way ties are a good example of multi-dimensional constructive engagement and productive cooperation.
He deeply appreciated support and cooperation of Pakistan as a valued friend in South Asia during course of Indonesian progress and expected enhanced strategic engagement for the mutual benefit of both countries in the future.

National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Prosecutor General Justice (Retd) Syed Asghar Haider has resigned from his post citing “personal engagements”, during the week.
According to sources, the Prime Minister’s House has received the resignation of Asghar Haider, whose term of office was due to end in February 2024.
The sources revealed that the NAB had completed its investigation into the 190 million pounds scandal and a reference in this was due to be submitted in court his month. But now the NAB cannot file the reference without Prosecutor General’s approval, the sources added.
Without the prosecutor general, the holding of executive board meeting and approval of cases were also now hanging in the air.
The Prosecutor General’s nod was also a must for restoration of cases following striking down of NAB amendments law by the Supreme Court.
It may be recalled that the previous PTI government had granted three-year extension in service to Asghar Haider through promulgation of an ordinance.

Pakistan keen to deepen bilateral relations with US: Shahid Ashraf Tarar

Caretaker Federal Minister for Communications, Railways, and Maritime Affairs Shahid Ashraf Tarar has said that US-Pakistan bilateral relations go back a long way and this relationship has evolved from security to other fields such as trade and investment, science and technology, Climate Change and sustainable development and education.
This was stated by him during a meeting with US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome, here during the week.
He expressed his profound desire to deepen the relations based on development cooperation.
He affirmed that Pakistan has been benefitting from General Electric Locomotives provided by the US to Pakistan Railways, and based on its vitality, another order has been placed recently.
Shahid Ashraf Tarar said that Karachi-Peshawar Railway line has been affected by floods at certain vulnerable points and US can cooperate with Pakistan Railways to reclaim these vulnerable tracks and secure them from future floods.
He further apprised that Pakistan has entered into successful international agreements in Gwadar and is further attracting foreign investments from global partners.
The US Ambassador said on the occasion that the focus has shifted from Pakistan’s bordering and tribal areas to flood-affected areas of Northern Sindh and South Punjab. Furthermore, possibilities are being explored for provision of clean drinking water and rehabilitation of damaged infrastructure in these areas.
Donald Blome expressed that Pakistan has an excellent opportunity to attract foreign investments in the wake of diversification of industries and businesses into South-Asian economies.
He said American International Development Finance Cooperation has expressed its eagerness to make large-scale investments in Pakistan. In this regard, US is ready to help Pakistan create a business-friendly environment to boost investments.

Kazakh Ambassador arranges Press briefing on ‘Economic Course of a Just Kazakhstan’

Ambassador of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Kistafin arranged a Press briefing to discuss various aspects of the state of nation address of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev titled “Economic course of a Just Kazakhstan” at a local hotel, during the week. The ambassador shared with the audience some salient features of the Presidential address.
Ambassador Kistafin said that the president mentioned in the address that after the spring elections, the number of parties in Parliament increased, and the composition of MPs changed significantly. The fractions representing political parties, as well as single-mandate MPs, have actively engaged in work, initiating many relevant bills and raising important issues concerning the country’s development.
Parliamentarians have also been busy during the summer months. In just two months, they visited over 1,200 settlements and met with voters to become acquainted with the situation on the ground. I express my sincere gratitude to everyone for their fruitful efforts. I am confident that the pace of work will increase even further during this new session.
The President also said that salaries of teachers have doubled since 2020. Medical professionals have also seen significant salary increases, and their incomes now exceed the national average. Citizens have been afforded the opportunity to access part of their pension savings, a move that has positively impacted the well-being of nearly one million people, enabling them to address their housing needs. Within the framework of the “Comfortable School” project, around 400 schools are slated for construction.
The president also talked about the global economy and said, it is essential to recognize that most countries are also advancing. Today, we are witnessing fundamental shifts in the global economy and the international division of labor. The pace of technological innovation is accelerating, and competition for resources is intensifying globally. Issues such as climate change, food security, and sustainable demographic development have moved to the forefront. Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan Matsuda Kuninori has congratulated Pakistani people on the occasion of the country’s 74th Independence Day, which is being marked today, and reiterated his resolve to work together to further deepen and strengthen the existing friendly relations between the two countries.
“On behalf of the Government and the people of Japan, I would like to express our sincere congratulations to the Government and the people of Pakistan on their 74th Independence Day and best wishes for further peace and prosperity in Pakistan. I would also like to appreciate Pakistan’s efforts to maintain stability in this region and its contribution to various UN peace-keeping missions all over the world, and I am sure Pakistan will continue doing so,” said the ambassador in his message of felicitation on Thursday.
The ambassador mentioned the decades-old history of Japan-Pakistan cordial relationship and Pakistan’s significant role during the reconstruction of Japan after WWII. He said when Japan started to pave the way for reconstruction after the end of WWII, Pakistan was one of those countries which manifested tolerance towards Japan and welcomed its return to the international community as a signatory of San Francisco Peace Treaty in 1951. “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Government and the people of Pakistan for that critical and generous support of reconciliation,” he added.
Ambassador Matsuda assured Japan’s commitment to continuously supporting Pakistan’s socio-economic development and promised that he continues working on strengthening political, economic, cultural and people-to-people ties between Japan and Pakistan. In particular, the ambassador added, in response to the challenges of Covid-19 and locust invasion, Japan has provided assistance for Pakistan’s efforts to fight those difficulties and will continue to support Pakistan, as global cooperation is indispensable to tackle the on-going and borderless challenges.

Pakistan success viz corona impressive, says Indonesia envoy

Indonesia Ambassador Iwan S. Amri has lauded the success story of Pakistan against COVID-19 pandemic as very impressive. The Ambassador said during the week that it was heartening to learn the steep decline being witnessed in COVID-19 cases and fatalities and congratulated the government and people of Pakistan on this remarkable achievement.
The Ambassador was speaking at Hop-A-Thon Ambassadors Congress organized by the Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPD) themed as “Surviving Corona, Coming Out Stronger Together”.
Ambassador Amri in his remarks said that in the wake of the pandemic Indonesia and Pakistan were faced with the similar challenges and both the countries could cooperate and work together in overcoming challenges particularly those in the economic areas.
On the occasion the Envoy availed the opportunity and on behalf of the people and Government of Indonesia extended the heartiest felicitations and best wishes to the people and Government of Pakistan on the auspicious occasion of the 74th Independence Day of Pakistan.
