Charred Body Found in Burnt Car Identified as Mustafa Amir, Police Confirm

KARACHI: Police have confirmed that the charred body recovered from a burnt car in Hub belongs to Mustafa Amir, a 23-year-old who was kidnapped from Defence, Karachi, over a month ago.

Speaking at a press conference, Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) DIG Muqaddas Haider stated that DNA profiling is underway to formally establish the identity of the victim. However, police claim that evidence and the confession of an arrested suspect confirm the body belongs to Mustafa Amir.

Key Developments in the Case:

  • Prime suspect, Armughan, is in judicial custody, after his police remand was denied.
  • Another suspect, Shehraz Bukhari, has been arrested with the help of the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) and a federal agency.
  • The two suspects, friends since school, allegedly lured Amir to Armughan’s house on January 6, where a fight broke out, leading to his murder.
  • The body was then transported to Hub, Balochistan, in Amir’s car and set on fire before the suspects returned to Karachi.

Police Encounter and Evidence Collection

During a police operation in Gizri, Karachi, suspect Armughan was arrested, but not before a confrontation in which a DSP and a constable were injured.

Investigators found:

  • Amir’s mobile phone in Armughan’s possession.
  • Bloodstains at the crime scene.
  • 64 laptops at Armughan’s premises, suggesting involvement in illegal call center activities and cryptocurrency dealings.
  • CCTV footage and witness statements confirming the suspects’ movements between Karachi and Hub.

Legal and Investigative Challenges

Amir’s mother has expressed frustration over police delays, including the late DNA testing of blood samples and a lack of cooperation in securing evidence.

Legal experts warn that a weak prosecution could lead to acquittal and stress the importance of:

  • Call data records and CCTV footage
  • Eyewitness testimonies
  • The murder weapon

Chief Minister’s Statement

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah acknowledged the case’s complexity but assured that significant progress had been made in the investigation. However, he criticized the court’s decision to deny police remand of the primary suspect.

This case has highlighted concerns about law enforcement efficiency and the judicial process in high-profile criminal cases in Pakistan.
