KARACHI: The Consul General of China in Karachi, Yang Yundong, along with Vice CG Zhang Hao, Protocol Secretary CG Shang Hailong, and other colleagues from the Consulate attended a breakfast meeting on Friday, hosted by Manzar Naqvi, Secretary General of the Karachi Editors Club (KEC), and Chairman of KEC’s special Committee “Silk Road Media Corridor” (SRMC), along with his family members.
KEC plan to celebrate the upcoming 10th anniversary celebration of the Belt and Road Initiatives (BRI) in September 2023 and the performance of the 2nd phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was also discussed in this meeting.
The BRI initiated in 2013 by China’s President Xi Jinping, aims to promote connectivity and cooperation among nations through infrastructure development, trade, and cultural exchange. Since its inception, the BRI has grown into a significant global initiative, fostering economic growth and strengthening ties between China and participating countries.
During the breakfast meeting, Manzar Naqvi passionately spoke about the significance of the upcoming 10th-anniversary celebration of the BRI, highlighting the successful collaboration between China and numerous countries, including Pakistan. As a prominent platform for media professionals in Karachi, the KEC takes pride in hosting the event in Pakistan, showcasing the contributions made by the BRI to the socio-economic development of the region.
Manzar Naqvi also discussed the performance of the 2nd phase of CPEC, often referred to as the “lifeline of Pakistan’s economy.”
During the meeting, concerns were raised about security issues, particularly in Balochistan, where militant organizations pose obstacles to the smooth completion of CPEC projects in the area. Participants acknowledged the gravity of the situation and stressed the need for collaborative efforts to ensure the safety and security of the projects.
Yang Yundong expressed his gratitude for the invitation and commended the Karachi Editors Club’s dedication to fostering positive ties between China and Pakistan. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to the success of CPEC and the BRI, emphasizing the importance of continuous dialogue and cooperation to overcome any obstacles in their implementation.
The breakfast meeting concluded on a positive note, with all parties expressing their enthusiasm for the 10th-anniversary celebration of the Belt and Road Initiatives and their determination to address challenges in the implementation of CPEC projects. The event highlighted the significance of such high-level engagements in fostering stronger bilateral relations between China and Pakistan, creating opportunities for mutual growth and prosperity.
As the date for the 10th-anniversary celebration approaches, the Karachi Editors Club and its partners are gearing up to commemorate a decade of fruitful cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiatives, with hopes for even greater achievements and continued progress in the years to come.
