Outgoing Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa commended the addition of an environmental protection clause in the 26th Constitutional Amendment, highlighting its significance for safeguarding Pakistan’s natural environment.
While leading a three-member bench on a case concerning forest preservation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), CJP Isa noted that including environmental protection in the Constitution would secure a healthier environment for future generations. Article 9A of the amendment, presented by KP’s additional advocate general, grants every citizen the right to a healthy environment. Justice Isa emphasized that good health is scientifically tied to environmental well-being, a principle also advocated in Islam.
As CJP Isa retires, a Full Court Reference and reception will honor him today, attended by Supreme Court judges, including Chief Justice-designate Yahya Afridi.
