The Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench on Friday highlighted governance failures as a key reason for cases reaching courts, particularly addressing delays in rehabilitation efforts for victims of the 2005 earthquake.
Justice Rizvi criticized the 19-year delay in rebuilding efforts, questioning authorities’ accountability. Justice Mandokhail suggested funds should have been directly given to victims instead of initiating construction projects, while Justice Hilali called the victims’ suffering a result of poor governance.
In related hearings, the court sought progress on deforestation, questioned illegal forest land occupation, and criticized encroachment near Margalla Hills.
On the incomplete Nai Gaj Dam project, the bench demanded a timeline and cost report from the federal government, blaming mismanagement for escalating costs and delays.
The bench also heard matters on judicial transfers, educational curriculum reforms to address child abuse, and adjourned related cases for further review.
