ISLAMABAD: The coronavirus pandemic continues to take a heavy toll as 58 more people succumbed to COVID-19 across the country in the past 24 hours, taking the nationwide death toll to 9,874.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 1,853 new cases of infection surfaced when 33,270 samples were tested, taking the national tally of infections to 471,335. The positivity ratio of cases was recorded at 5.56 percent during this period. A total of 2,282 patients under treatment in various hospitals are said to be in critical condition.
A total of 1,643 patients recovered from the disease over the past 24 hours, pushing the number of the recovered patients to 422,132. A total of 65,571,12 tests have been conducted across the country.
Meanwhile in Sindh, at least 22 more patients of coronavirus died overnight, lifting the death toll to 3,491. According to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, 1,035 new cases emerged when 12,021 tests were conducted, raising the tally to 211,276. As many as 732 more patients recovered from the contagion, taking the total recoveries to 187,767 in the province so far.
In AJK, as many as 43 new coronavirus cases were reported during the past 24 hours, taking the tally to 8,215. According to a statement issued by the health department, two more patients died overnight due to the virus as the total death toll in the region has now reached 218. As many as 7,469 patients recovered from the disease so far with 77 more in the past 24 hours in the region.
In Punjab, 524 new cases and 42 deaths were reported during the last 24 hours. So far, 3,900 people have died of COVID-19 in Punjab. – TLTP
