Don Lemon has responded to Kanye West’s comments following their red-carpet drama at the Grammys.
Speaking with Page Six on February 6, the veteran journalist addressed West’s online insult, in which the rapper allegedly called him a “koon” after Lemon shared rumors that West and his wife, Bianca Censori, were kicked out of the event.
“He got on social media and he called me [a koon], I was like, ‘C’mon man, we’re both Black men. You know what that word means in our community. Have some respect,’” Lemon said.
He denied fabricating the rumor, explaining that he simply reposted it after hearing it from other sources.
Lemon also recalled an earlier interaction with West on the red carpet, where the rapper dismissed him.
“When I tried to interview him, he goes, ‘I’m trying to focus. No interviews,’” Lemon shared.
The journalist further remarked that while West is known for his publicity stunts, he was shocked by the level of nudity involved in his and Censori’s Grammys appearance.
“Kanye’s a master marketer. He’s a master promoter, so I’m surprised but not surprised. I’m not surprised that he pulled a stunt. I’m just surprised that there was a lot of nudity involved,” he said.
The controversy comes after West and Censori turned heads on the Grammys red carpet, with Censori wearing a completely see-through outfit, seemingly recreating the cover of West’s Vultures album.
