Edmundo Gonzalez, the leader of Venezuela’s opposition, will be granted asylum by Spain

Edmundo Gonzalez, the leader of the opposition in Venezuela, has landed in Spain following a month-long exile in the crisis-ridden South American nation, and Madrid has announced that it would offer him political shelter.
Gonzalez and his spouse boarded a Spanish military aircraft, which landed at the Torrejon air base in Madrid at approximately 4 p.m. (14:00 GMT), according to a statement released by the Spanish foreign ministry on Sunday.

Prior to this morning on Sunday, Spain’s Foreign Minister, Jose Manuel Albares, stated that Gonzalez had applied for political asylum in the European nation and that Spain would “obviously” grant it to him.
Caracas declared that it had granted him permission to go to Spain in safety.
Gonzalez departed Venezuela after rejecting President Nicolas Maduro’s reelection on July 28.
