Eight Khawarij Eliminated in KP Operations: ISPR

RAWALPINDI – In a continued crackdown on terrorism, Pakistan’s security forces neutralized eight Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists, referred to as khawarij, during two successful operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported on Tuesday.

The engagements occurred between January 12 and 13:

  • Tank District Operation: Six khawarij were “sent to hell” after security forces launched an intelligence-based operation targeting a terrorist hideout.
  • Tirah Valley Encounter: Two more terrorists were eliminated in Khyber District.

Sanitisation operations are ongoing in the affected areas to clear any remaining threats, reinforcing the military’s resolve to eradicate terrorism.

Rising Security Concerns

This announcement follows the recent elimination of 27 terrorists in Kacchi District, Balochistan, highlighting an intensifying fight against terror networks.

Pakistan’s security challenges have deepened since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan facing a surge in violence.

According to the CRSS Annual Security Report 2024:

  • 2024 was the deadliest year in a decade, with 685 fatalities among security forces and 444 terror attacks.
  • A total of 1,612 fatalities (civilians and security personnel) accounted for 63% of the year’s casualties, reflecting a 73% rise compared to the 934 terrorists eliminated.
  • Overall, 2,546 fatalities and 2,267 injuries resulted from 1,166 terror attacks and counter-terrorism operations.
  • KP suffered the highest losses with 1,616 fatalities, followed by Balochistan with 782.

November 2024 marked the deadliest month, with an average of seven daily fatalities across Pakistan.

National Resolve

The grim statistics underscore the scale of the challenge, but security forces remain determined to continue their mission against terrorism. The nation stands united, honoring the sacrifices of its armed forces and law enforcement agencies in securing peace and stability.
