Strengthening Ties: PM Shehbaz and President Erdogan Commit to Enhanced Trade and Security Collaboration

Erdogan and PM Shehbaz met in New York on the fringes of the 79th UN General Assembly session, according to a press release released by the FO today.

According to the statement, “both leaders discussed the bilateral matters and agreed to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in the domains of trade, investment, defense, and security.”

It went on, “They evaluated the arrangements for the forthcoming 7th session of the Pakistan-Turkiye High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC), which is scheduled to take place in Islamabad shortly.”In addition, the FO reports that the two leaders spoke about “regional and global developments, especially the ongoing genocide and the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza” and demanded a “immediate ceasefire in Gaza and an end of hostilities.”

Turkiye’s “firm and consistent support for the oppressed people” of India-occupied Kashmir was acknowledged by the prime minister.

According to the FO, President Erdogan praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his leadership and dedication to economic reform, and expressed his enthusiasm for his economic measures, which have been instrumental in stabilizing Pakistan’s economy.

According to the statement, President Erdogan “took the opportunity to extend his heartfelt birthday wishes” to PM Shehbaz.

In the meantime, PM Shehbaz described Erdogan as his “dear brother and a great friend of Pakistan” in a post on X, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to meet.

The prime minister added, “We also discussed regional developments, especially the situation in Gaza, and assured each other of consistent and continued support on core interests.”

“Thank you, Mr. President, for expressing your gratitude for our economic reform strategy and for your kind birthday wishes. He continued, “I’m excited to collaborate with you to further develop our two nations’ bilateral partnership.

A high-level Turkish business team visited Pakistan last month to investigate investment potential and remove obstacles to boosting bilateral investment after the enforcement of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Dr. Omer Bolat, the minister of trade, suggested steps to boost investor confidence by making investments easier for Turkish businesses. He also suggested improving flight connections between Pakistan and Turkey to encourage more trade.
