For several years, the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), the apex body representing traders and industrialists, remained divided into two major groups UBG and BMP. Much like political polarization, this split weakened the Federation’s collective strength and limited its ability to secure favorable decisions and timely responses from the government on key economic and trade related issues. This division proved to be a major hindrance for the trader community, as fragmented leadership diluted FPCCI’s influence at crucial moments. Genuine concerns related to taxation, issue of rebate orders, energy tariffs, regulatory hurdles, and ease of doing business often went unresolved due to the absence of unified stance. Business community continued suffering and failed to secure favorable policies and timely responses from successive governments. Instead of strengthening advocacy, the split became a major hindrance. Genuine issues faced by traders ranging from taxation and energy costs to import-export regulations often failed to receive the attention they deserved. During covid small traders suffered heavy losses and it was FPCCI that could have come forward and helped them, but there was no recourse as a result some businesses were closed. FPCCI an apex body of business community remained divided and only elite were the beneficiaries. The elders were seen engaged and kept trying to bring all under one roof .After prolonged deliberations and mature dialogue, the leadership of both groups has now taken a historic and commendable step by agreeing to operate under one united platform. This decision reflects political maturity, foresight, and a deep sense of responsibility towards the wider business community. The merger marks a new chapter for FPCCI, one where collective interest is placed above individual ambitions. By joining hands, the unified body will be in a far stronger position to engage with the government, influence policy decisions, and safeguard the rights of traders, exporters, and industrialists across the country. Business leaders and stakeholders have widely welcomed this development, viewing it as a long-awaited move that will restore FPCCI’s credibility, strength, and effectiveness. A united FPCCI is not only better equipped to negotiate economic challenges but can also play a proactive role in national economic growth, investment promotion, and employment generation.

Given that industry is widely regarded as the backbone of the national economy, the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry(FPCCI) should be granted a slot for the appointment of a Special Assistant drawn from FPCCI. This special Assistant would serve as a direct advisory link between the business community and the government, ensuring that industrial perspectives, ground realities, and policy recommendations are effectively conveyed at the highest level. Such an arrangement would help align government policies with industrial needs, promote sustainable economic growth, and strengthen private public collaboration.
