Hike in electricity on cards

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) received the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) request to hike the electricity price by Rs3.53 per unit.
According to sources, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will hear the CPPA plea on November 29. The recent increase in electricity tariff has been sought for the month of October under monthly fuel adjustment.
NEPRA hikes electricity price by 40 paisa per unit.
The approval from the NEPRA will put an additional burden of Rs40 billion on the power consumers.
Meanwhile the country’s power sector circular debt stock is said to have reached Rs 2.537 trillion during first quarter (July-September), 2023-24, showing 10 per cent or Rs 75.7 billion growth in flow per month despite recovery through anti-theft drive.
The main reasons for substantial growth in the flow of circular debt are issues of K-Electric (KE), AJ&K, release of subsidies, delay in implementation on QTA adjustments, higher interest payments, dollar rates, etc. IMF has also asked the authorities to notify regulator tariff adjustments. – NNI
