ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue has issued a rebuttal on a news item published in a section of the Press (not The Financial Daily) questioning the quality service being provided by NLC at Torkham Border Terminal. FBR has clarified here Wednesday that impression of lack of coordination among government agencies with regards to matters pertaining to Torkham Border Terminal is factually incorrect.
FBR has further stated that all stakeholders including FBR, NLC, representatives of Federal and Provincial governments hold monthly meetings chaired by Advisor to Prime Minister Mohammad Shehzad Arbab to oversee matters at Torkham Border Terminal.
The NLC has played a key role in the round the clock operationalization of Torkham Border Terminal.
The nonstop functioning of the Border Terminal has remarkably increased trade volume with Afghanistan besides easing cross border movement of passengers. NLC has always been forthcoming in providing all out assistance to the government agencies and that was the reason it had been appointed Border Terminal Operator.
It is being further added that scanners installed by NLC has been instrumental in seizure of heavy foreign currency, narcotics, arms/ammunition, smuggled items and gold worth millions of rupees, which are handed over to concerned government agencies in accordance with the law.
