Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and chairman, Imran Khan, admitted to the presence of groupings within the party but ruled out any significant internal rifts or the formation of a forward bloc. Speaking to reporters at Adiala Jail on Tuesday, Imran stated that he had called both groups to discuss matters on June 4.
Imran emphasized that no decisions had been made regarding the leaders leaving the party. He indicated that judgments would be rendered separately for party leaders who faced torture and those who left after viewing their case files.
Imran also addressed a US House of Representatives resolution calling for a comprehensive investigation into alleged interference or irregularities in Pakistan’s elections. He highlighted that the resolution, passed unanimously, raised important questions similar to those posed by Pildat, Fafen, and Pattan. He reiterated his stance on electoral transparency, asserting that the election was rigged.
When asked about government claims that PTI lobbied in the US for the resolution, Imran dismissed the notion, pointing out the improbability of such a resolution given the strength of the Israeli lobby in the US. He differentiated between the resolution, which pertains to elections, and the cipher case, related to the end of his government.
Imran defended Umar Ayub, who faced slogans against him, citing his sacrifices and contributions to the party. He avoided commenting on Fawad Chaudhary’s criticisms of PTI’s leadership but criticized the current budget, describing it as cruel and inflationary.
Additionally, Imran accused the interior minister of damaging cricket and maintained that the government, which he described as a product of rigging, operates on falsehoods. He criticized the government’s proposal against the US resolution and called for transparent elections to save the country.
Imran expressed frustration over restrictions in jail, noting the disparity in treatment compared to Nawaz Sharif’s imprisonment. Bushra Bibi echoed his sentiments, criticizing the current government.
PTI Information Secretary Raoof Hasan, in an interview with Hamid Mir, acknowledged ongoing efforts to fracture the party. He emphasized internal freedom of opinion and denied any deals for Imran’s release, attributing his imprisonment to his refusal to compromise. Hasan dismissed the notion of bringing back former party members who left, asserting that decisions on such matters would be made after Imran’s release.
