ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat revealed on Monday that imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan has not abandoned his decision regarding remittances but, on the advice of the party leadership, appears to be delaying the protest for a few days.
During an appearance on Geo News program “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath”, Marwat admitted that the “all is well” statement from Khan had caused some damage to PTI’s ongoing efforts to hold negotiations with the federal government.
“The circumstances in which Khan gave the statement, after forming the negotiation committee, caused some damage. I believe it rendered the committee ineffective—this is my personal opinion,” Marwat remarked.
Khan’s Frustration Over PTI Leadership
Imran Khan recently expressed dissatisfaction with his party leadership, criticizing their lack of strategy to protest at D-Chowk and questioning the “friendly atmosphere” perceived outside his prison.
“When I saw the news, it seemed like there was a friendly atmosphere outside, and everyone was living happily,” Khan reportedly remarked, expressing surprise at the leadership’s lack of a vigorous reaction.
Khan emphasized that the December 15 call for protest has turned into a challenge for the PTI itself, rather than for the government. He urged the party to respond strongly, particularly in parliamentary forums and beyond.
Communication Gaps and Delayed Talks
Marwat clarified that the PTI negotiation committee had not received instructions from Imran Khan regarding when to initiate talks.
“Due to this, Khan made certain assumptions. There was a communication gap,” he admitted.
The committee, formed by Khan to negotiate with the federal government, has yet to begin its work. Marwat explained that efforts are underway to revive stalled negotiations, which began on November 22 but were disrupted on November 26.
“The talks should not have been stalled. Both the establishment and PTI regret the delay,” Marwat acknowledged.
Outlook
Sher Afzal Marwat’s comments highlight internal miscommunication within PTI leadership, Khan’s mounting frustration, and challenges surrounding the party’s negotiation efforts. The delay in protests and talks reflects the broader political uncertainty that PTI continues to grapple with amidst its evolving strategy.
