Imran Khan Pens Second Letter to Army Chief, Alleges PTI Being Targeted

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has written a second open letter to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, reiterating his concerns over what he describes as the ongoing targeting of his party.

In the letter, shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Khan stated that his previous communication was intended to bridge the widening gap between the military and the public. However, he criticized the response to his first letter as “irresponsible and non-serious.”

“As a former prime minister and leader of Pakistan’s most popular political party, I have dedicated my life to earning international recognition for this country. My public life of over 55 years and my financial records spanning three decades are completely transparent. My loyalty lies solely with Pakistan,” Khan wrote.

His initial letter to the army chief had urged a review of policies and called for the establishment of a judicial commission. It focused on concerns regarding alleged electoral fraud, the promotion of individuals accused of money laundering, the 26th Constitutional Amendment, and the Al-Qadir Trust case verdict.

Following the first letter, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan denied any shift in the party’s stance, stating that Khan had written in his capacity as a former prime minister rather than signaling a policy change.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Public and Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, accused Khan of attempting to create divisions between the military and the public. He challenged the former premier to engage in politics through parliamentary channels rather than open letters.

Khan’s latest communication comes weeks after PTI leaders, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, met with the army chief to discuss security matters. It also follows the collapse of PTI’s negotiations with the PML-N-led government last month, where the party had demanded judicial commissions to investigate the events of May 9 and November 24-27, along with the release of all political prisoners, including Khan.

In December, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry addressed speculation about backdoor talks between PTI and the establishment, stating that no political leader’s ambitions should take precedence over Pakistan’s national interests.

The situation continues to unfold, with further developments expected.
