KARACHI: A prominent labor leader and head of the People’s Labour Bureau Sindh (PLBS), Habibuddin Junaidi, has voiced significant worry and frustration regarding supposed breaches of labor regulations by some companies.
He emphasized that both the individuals who break the law and those who enable these illegal actions share the same level of accountability, and this issue is intolerable for the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).
He shared his thoughts during a gathering at his home with a group of workers led by Adnan Habib Siddiqui who is the President of the Peoples Labour Bureau District Korangi.
The group informed him that a harsh system of private contracts has been put in place in many factories in District Korangi.
In most businesses, workers are missing out on basic needs like Social Security and Employees Oldage Benefits Institution (EOBI).
Additionally, although they work more than the required eight hours, they are not receiving extra pay for overtime.
The group also pointed out that local people are missing out on job chances, and many workers aren’t even given official job letters.
Moreover, the Government of Sindh’s minimum monthly pay of forty thousand rupees for unskilled workers is not being met.
During this time, the President of the PLBS made it clear that his group will keep fighting for the rights and welfare of workers and will always support them.
He commended the efforts of District Korangi President Adnan Habib Siddiqui, stating that organizing the working class and advocating for their rights is their main focus.
