KARACHI: A poetry session was held at the Culture Center of the Islamic Republic of Iran Karachi on the occasion of the World Family Day in commemoration of Hakeem Abul-Qasim Ferdowsi, the great Iranian epic poet and the originator of Shahnama.
The famous poets of Karachi presented their poetry in this poetry gathering. Among the poets who participated in the event were Farast Rizvi, Salim Fouz, Sahartab Roomani, Kishwar Adeel Jafri, Naseem Nazish, Huma Baig, Naheed Azmi, Aireen Farhat and Zia Zaidi. The poets presented their beautiful poems and quatrains regarding Hakeem Abul-Qasim Ferdowsi and World Family Day.
The Resident Editor of Daily Pakistan Karachi Mubashir, editor of The Financial Daily Manzar Naqvi, Hameed Bhutto from Excellence Club, and other famous literary and social personalities and journalists were included in the audience.
The poetry session started with the recitation of the Holy Quran, after which Saeed Talebinia, director of Khana-e-Farhang Iran Karachi, welcomed all the guests while giving a speech. He said in his speech: Today’s poetry gathering has been held in memory of the great Persian poet Hakeem Abul-Qasim Ferdowsi on the occasion of World Family Day.
He said, in the Iranian national calendar, May15 is named “Hakim Abul-Qasim Ferdowsi day”. Ferdowsi is a famous Iranian epic poet and the author of Shahnameh, which is considered a great masterpiece in Persian and world literature. Ferdowsi’s Shahnama is a vast ocean of wisdom, knowledge and ethics. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, who himself is a great politician, historian, writer and poet, considers Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh to be a treasure of spiritual teachings.
He said with reference to the World Family Day: “The purpose of celebrating World Family Day is to recognize the family as the main pillar of society and to remove the obstacles that family systems face in today’s world.”
Farast Rizvi, who was presiding over this poetry gathering, before reciting his speech, spoke about the importance of Ferdowsi in Persian poetry.
He said: “Hakeem Abul-Qasim Ferdowsi is one of the strong pillars of Persian poetic literature and the pioneer of epic poetry in Iran. Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh has an exemplary and unique position not only in Persian literature, but also in the epic poetry of the world. Thus, many famous epic poems have been written in Europe and other countries of the world, but in terms of quality and meaning, no poem can equal Shahnameh.”
