KARACHI: CEO KW&SB Engineer Syed Sallahuddin Ahmed strongly denied the news of adding phenyl instead of Chlorine to the water and said that the KW&SB is working day and night to prevent Naegleria, While the required dosing of Chlorine is being added to the water supplied to the citizens according to the standard and quantity set by the World Health Organization.
Apart from this, he said the process of adding Chlorine to the water supplied from the Hydrants Cell is also ensured.
He said that the KW&SB is adding proper Chlorination to the water through its nine filter plants located at six different locations, In this regard, regular Chlorine is being added from Gharo Filter Plant, including COD Filter Plant, Hub Filter Plant, NEK old, NEK II, Papri Filter Plant, He said all the Filter Plants are working round the clock for proper Chlorination, While the KW&SB uses about 240 Chlorine cylinders per month of Chlorine as required.
He said the KW&SB adds Chlorination to the water in two stages, In the first stage, Pre Filtration Chlorination is added at about 1.0 Ppm, while in the second stage, Post Filtration Chlorination is added at 2.0 pm, Apart from this, the Lab Unit Staff KW&SB is checking the dosing of chlorine in the water in different areas of the city.
On this occasion, the CEO KW&SB advised the citizens that the users should keep all the underground and overhead
tanks of the buildings properly cleaned on a monthly basis, He said that citizens should use one Chlorine tablet in a 1000 gallon water tank which is enough for 15 days.
He further said that the KW&SB along with other related departments of the Sindh Government including the health department is engaged in the fight against Nigella virus, Therefore, if we all follow all these precautions, we can be 100% protected from this dangerous disease.
