KARACHI: The Larkana Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the first Larkana Chamber Conference under the supervision of Mumtaz Ali Shaikh, which was attended by a large number of office bearers, representatives, and members of the business community, as well as the United Business Group (UBG) from across Pakistan, information reached here Friday disclosed.
The event was graced by S.M. Tanveer, the Provincial Minister of Commerce and Industry of Punjab and Patron-In-Chief of UBG. Prominent attendees included Shahzad Ali Malik, Zubair Tufail, Khalid Tawab, Hanif Gohar, Amir Atta Bajwa, Zafer Bakhtawari, Mumtaz Sheikh, Shabnam Zafar, Sohail Malik, Ahmed Chinoy, Daru Khan and others.
The President of the Larkana Chamber delivered the welcome address, highlighting the chamber’s performance and activities. The chamber has made significant contributions to the economic activities of Sindh and has been advocating for the business community’s concerns to higher authorities.
The gathering also featured speeches from the office bearers of various trade bodies, who appreciated the initiative taken by the Larkana Chamber to organize this important event, providing opportunities for the business community to raise their respective issues.
In his address, S.M. Tanveer, the Provincial Minister of Punjab, emphasized the need for unity among the business community. He acknowledged that the business community faces numerous challenges, particularly in the face of political instability, the sharp decline of the Pakistani rupee, power shortages, poor infrastructure, insecurity for businesspersons, and high utility charges.
These issues have adversely affected the progress and economic prosperity of Pakistan. He highlighted that developed and underdeveloped countries alike strengthen their business communities, as they play a crucial role in ensuring the prosperity and a promising future for the younger generation.
During the conference, several unanimous resolutions were passed, including: The business community believes in political stability and vehemently condemns the incidents that occurred on May 9, 2023; The business community stands united with the Pakistan armed forces and strongly condemns any anti-state statements; In the upcoming budget, the business community, which is already facing severe crisis, requests tax relief measures; Early development of Larkana airport; and Development of Larkana’s infrastructure, particularly the railway line and railway station, to facilitate smoother transportation and cargo movements.
