In a surprising move, *Emily in Paris* Season 4 has adopted a split release format, with the first five episodes already available, and the second batch of five episodes set to drop on September 12. Lily Collins, the star of the show, recently opened up about how this new format impacted the cast’s performances and the overall production process.
According to Collins, who plays the lead character Emily Cooper, filming was more challenging than usual due to the show’s production schedule being affected by its first-ever fall and winter filming seasons. In an interview with *Deadline*, Collins explained that the team had to film some episodes out of sequence to make the most of the wintery setting, which was a new experience for the show.
“We got to go to the mountains and have snow, and we needed to make sure that we had the best snowfall,” Collins shared. “So certain episodes that are in the second drop, we ended up filming before the end of the first drop.”
This unusual filming schedule created complexities for the cast and crew. “It made things kind of complicated,” Collins admitted, “because we, as a cast, and even [creator] Darren [Star], didn’t always know how the season was going to end.” The cast had to navigate the filming process without knowing the full trajectory of their characters’ storylines, which kept them “on their toes” and added a layer of unpredictability.
Collins further explained that the split release format added a unique challenge but also brought excitement. “Knowing that the season would be divided into two drops allowed us to really emphasize the impact of the decisions being made. It was fun to play into those shifts, where characters believe in their choices until something happens that makes them question everything, like ‘Wait, what?'”
The split-release format has not only changed the dynamic for the cast but also for the fans, who will experience the storyline unfolding in two parts, with more unexpected twists and turns to come in the latter half of the season.
