Sher Afzal Marwat, a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has reconciled with PTI founder Imran Khan following a meeting on Saturday at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. The reunion marked the resolution of differences between the two, as Khan welcomed Marwat with a hug, signifying an end to their dispute.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Marwat disclosed that Khan had entrusted him with the responsibility of leading the upcoming PTI rally on August 22. He emphasized that all issues between them had been settled as per Khan’s instructions and reassurances.
Addressing concerns about his recent removal from the party, Marwat clarified that only Imran Khan has the authority to expel him. He acknowledged that his basic party membership had been canceled through a notification and that he had been asked to resign as a PTI MNA. However, Marwat insisted on meeting Khan before making any decisions and emphasized the importance of consulting his constituency and elders.
In the wake of internal party disputes, Imran Khan granted Marwat the meeting, and the PTI core committee subsequently rejected the resignation of Hammad Azhar as the party president of Punjab. Marwat assured that if any incidents similar to those on May 9 were to occur, he would take full responsibility, handling all planning independently to ensure that no blame falls on Khan.
Marwat also announced his plans to lead peaceful protests involving students, lawyers, and farmers, expressing his frustration with the current political climate. He stressed the importance of traveling to Lahore and dismissed criticisms regarding his recent trip to London, making it clear that he would not entertain objections to PTI members such as Shibli Faraz, Omar Ayub, and others.
Previously, Marwat had received a show-cause notice for controversial statements that allegedly damaged the party’s relationship with Saudi Arabia and violated party discipline. Following an unsatisfactory response to the notice, he was expelled from the party but has now rejoined after reconciling with Khan.
