ISLAMABAD: At the tail-end of the Monsoon plantation season, Saaf Mohalla Saaf Pakistan (SMSP) organized a tree plantation drive in collaboration with Green Squad for the students of Safa Mera Primary School, here Sunday.
SMSP is Islamabad-based organization working for environment sustainability and awareness, working with school children of the marginalized community.
Held at a newly developed park in sector F-10/4, the event offered students a valuable opportunity to connect with nature and actively contribute to making Islamabad greener. About 30 grade 5 students – an equal mix of boys and girls – participated in the event planting 70 saplings under the guidance of Dr. Mehr Nigar, CEO SMSP, and Hassan Abdullah of Green Squad).
Dr. Mehr emphasized the importance of tree planting for combating climate change and supporting healthy ecosystems. She thanked CDA for their support. Hassan Abdullah highlighted the need to select native tree species to enhance local biodiversity and mitigate the impact of high pollen counts from non-native plants.
The saplings planted included a mix of Taali (Sepium) trees, valued for their fall foliage and wood, alongside fruit-bearing trees such as Jamun, Loquat, and local mulberry. The children also took part in a park cleanup, reinforcing their commitment to environmental stewardship.
Dr. Hassan Urooj, former DG Health, visited the site and praised the efforts of SMSP and Green Squad for their meaningful work with positive impact on public health.
