The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) announced on Monday that more monsoon rains are expected to hit various parts of the country starting on Independence Day, August 14th, and continuing through August 18th.
According to the PMD, monsoon winds will enter the upper and middle regions of the country, bringing rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. The coastal areas of Sindh are also likely to experience partially cloudy weather with the possibility of light rain showers.
The Met Office predicts that Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several areas in Punjab will see rain from August 14th to 18th. Regions such as Murree, Galyat, Chakwal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Sahiwal, Jhang, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, and Pakpattan are expected to experience rain showers during this period.
Additionally, thunder and lightning, along with rain, may occur in Kasur, Khushab, and Sargodha. The areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Bajaur, Buner, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Orakzai, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan, are also expected to receive rain showers with thunderstorms from August 14th to 18th.
From August 15th to 18th, rain is also anticipated in parts of Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The PMD had earlier forecast a wetter-than-usual monsoon season for Pakistan this year, a country that experts say is increasingly vulnerable to extreme weather patterns driven by climate change.
