KARACHI: Doctors, nurses and all paramedic staff at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases stopped working to obey the orders of their management when National Accountability Bureau officials entered the Hospital to seize their record for further investigation on Thursday, hospital sources said.
The NAB sources said that investigation into corruption in NICVD is under way and they are
investigating all illegal recruitments, high salary packages and fringe benefits awarded to NICVD staff by their Executive Director Professor Nadeem Qamar and his allies. NAB officials are also investigating the hospital’s procurement function, purchase of medicines and machinery during the period of 10 years.
Relevant officials of Human Resources office were questioned by NAB team and enquired about the ghost employees during raid. The critically ill patients’ life is in danger and hospital management is not attending any emergency cases. Sources said NAB is probing into the investigation of this hospital for many years and there are so many complaints filed against the E.D Dr. Nadeem Qamar but he is so influential, politically strong and resilient to tackle all interrogations against all his incompetent decisions. He also fired many peoples from the hospital who are hurdled in his way.
Chief Pharmacist Dr. Syed Asif Ali forcibly retired two years before from NICVD who refused to purchase medicines from Professor Nadeem Qamar’s blue-eyed pharma companies. Recently NICVD had almost blocked the payments of its many vendors which affected its smooth supply chain.
When ‘The Financial Daily’ contacted Dr. Sobia Akhtar Khan after the NAB intervention in NICVD, she refused to give her official version of the management regarding this incident.
