The 59-year-old supermodel became emotional during her acceptance speech after being presented with the green ribbon medallion.
Fighting back tears, Campbell expressed gratitude to her loved ones, saying, “To my family, you are my foundation, and I thank you for your unwavering support.”
She also acknowledged her “work-family” in the fashion industry, countering stereotypes about its fickleness by stating, “I can tell you that’s not true.”
Thanking her mentors and collaborators, she said, “Your confidence in me has been invaluable.”
In her closing remarks, Campbell dedicated the award to Black creatives in fashion, saying, “To the aspiring models and creatives of our color, I share this recognition with you. You remind me daily of the importance of representation and staying true to oneself.”
She highlighted The Order of Arts and Letters as symbolizing a “legacy of creativity and encouraging recipients to use their voices.”
Standing proud, she remarked, “I’m here not just as Naomi Campbell the model, but as Naomi the advocate, collaborator, and most importantly, a grateful human being.”
For the ceremony where she received the Insignia of Knight Of The Order of Arts And Letters, Campbell donned an elegant black-and-white striped dress, reflecting her long-standing career that began at the age of eight.
