No Action Planned Against Former Army Chief General Bajwa, Claims Insider

An informed source has refuted rumors circulating on social media regarding potential action against former army chief General (R) Qamar Javed Bajwa. The source dismissed these speculations as baseless, emphasizing that no such action is under consideration.

Despite the growing rumors, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) did not provide a response when contacted by The News for comments on the matter. The source specifically debunked a widely circulated social media post, falsely presented as an “intelligence report,” which suggested that General Bajwa might face a similar fate as the recently arrested former DG ISI Lt Gen (R) Faiz Hameed. The post also claimed that additional security had been deployed around Bajwa’s residence in anticipation of a potential Field General Court Martial (FGCM).

The source strongly denied these claims, stating that they are entirely untrue. Another insider revealed that General Bajwa is currently in Dubai and is expected to return in the coming days.

The “fake” intelligence report is believed to have been shared by a retired military officer who is known for his anti-army campaigns and is currently living abroad. This officer was previously sentenced to 14 years in jail by a Field General Court Martial under the Pakistan Army Act, 1952, for inciting sedition and violating the Official Secrets Act, 1923.

The rumors about potential action against General Bajwa gained traction following the recent arrest of Lt Gen (R) Faiz Hameed. Hameed is facing charges related to corruption in a housing society in Islamabad and violations of the Pakistan Army Act post-retirement, which have been established according to ISPR.

Interestingly, both PTI founder Imran Khan and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif have called for General Bajwa’s accountability, although it remains unclear whether Asif’s statements reflect a personal stance or are part of a broader strategy by the government or PMLN leadership to pressure the current army chief into taking action against his predecessor.

Meanwhile, Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmed Khan contradicted Khawaja Asif’s statements regarding General Bajwa.
