Pakistani-Origin Footballer Haris Zeb to Feature in FIFA Club World Cup

KARACHI: Haris Zeb, a Pakistani-origin footballer from New Zealand, is set to make history as the first player of Pakistani descent to feature in the FIFA Club World Cup. Zeb has signed with Auckland City FC, marking a significant milestone in his career and for Pakistan’s presence in the world of football.

Zeb, who previously played for Birkenhead United, has joined Auckland City FC and is already undergoing pre-season training with his new team. Auckland City FC secured their spot in the prestigious 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after winning the 2024 OFC Champions League.

The 2025 tournament will see an expanded field of 32 teams, and Auckland City FC will face top clubs including Bayern Munich (Germany), Boca Juniors (Argentina), and Benfica (Portugal) in the group stage.

Born on May 15, 2001, in New Zealand to Pakistani parents, Haris Zeb holds dual citizenship, making him eligible to represent Pakistan at the international level. He was previously called up to the Pakistan national team for the 2023 Four Nations Cup in Mauritius, but was unable to participate due to an injury.

The 23-year-old left-winger has played for several New Zealand clubs, including Christchurch United and Miramar Rangers, and his move to Auckland City FC marks a major step in his career as he prepares to showcase his talent on the biggest stage in club football.

Zeb has expressed his intent to represent Pakistan in future international fixtures, having already informed the Pakistan Football Federation of his availability for national team selections. Although his national team debut was delayed during Stephen Constantine’s tenure, Zeb remains optimistic about bringing Pakistan football to the global stage.
