Pakistan’s Coastal Areas at Risk of Possible Storm Impact

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued an early alert on Tuesday, warning of a potential storm that may impact Pakistan’s coastal areas in the third week of October. The alert comes as a developing low-pressure system, currently situated near the Lakshadweep Valley in India, is expected to move northwestward and may transform into a storm.

According to initial forecasts, the storm could make landfall along Pakistan’s coastline, although the precise trajectory and intensity will determine its impact. The NDMA also cautioned that the system might evolve into a tropical cyclone, which could bring significant weather disruptions to the region.

The NDMA has urged residents and stakeholders in coastal regions to stay informed about official updates and heed any advisories as the situation develops. The authority is working in collaboration with relevant departments to monitor the weather system and will continue providing timely updates.

In August, Karachi and other coastal areas experienced heavy rains caused by the cyclonic storm Asna, which developed in the Arabian Sea, highlighting the region’s vulnerability to such weather patterns.
