The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the relocation of the second Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh from Karachi to Rawalpindi due to ongoing construction work at the National Stadium. This decision follows consultations with stakeholders and a review of operational and logistical concerns.
The PCB cited the need for uninterrupted construction to ensure Karachi’s National Stadium is ready for the Champions Trophy 2025. As a result, both Tests in the series will now be held at Rawalpindi’s International Cricket Stadium. The second Test was originally scheduled to take place in Karachi from August 30 to September 3.
In light of this change, ticket sales for the Karachi Test have been suspended. Fans who have already purchased tickets will receive a full refund, which will be processed automatically and credited back to their accounts.
The PCB is investing Rs12.8 billion in upgrading the National Stadium in Karachi, Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, and Rawalpindi International Cricket Stadium in preparation for the Champions Trophy 2025. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently approved the design plans for these venues during a visit to BDP Pattern’s head office in London. The design for Karachi’s stadium includes a two-phase renovation plan featuring a new building with VIP boxes, media facilities, and upgraded dressing rooms. A new roof will be installed during the second phase of construction.
The PCB explained that construction noise and dust could disrupt players, officials, broadcasters, and media, influencing the decision to move the Test match to Rawalpindi. The series’ first Test will still be held in Rawalpindi from August 21 to 25.
The PCB also confirmed that the Pakistan Shaheens versus Bangladesh A series will proceed as planned in Islamabad.
