PCB reacts to Indian claim of loss to Pakistan from Champions Trophy

KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board has termed the news published in the Indian media as fabricated, baseless and contrary to facts.
After the ICC Champions Trophy, the Indian media has started a campaign to defame Pakistan cricket.
The PCB spokesperson says that the Indian media is fabricating stories based on speculation, this story has been distorted by reducing the match fees of the players in the national T20 tournament.
The PCB spokesperson said that the PCB has not suffered any loss from the Champions Trophy, we will get $6 million for hosting and the decision on the income from gate money will be made after an audit in a few months, while the ICC will pay for hotel rent, plane tickets, prize money and other expenses.
According to Indian media reports, the Pakistan Cricket Board suffered a loss of Rs 869 crore ($85 million) while hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, after which the board has taken, drastic measures such as cutting players’ match fees and ending the facilities of 5-star hotels.
However, how much profit or loss did PCB make from the Champions Trophy? The statement of the Cricket Board has come to light.
According to details received here, Advisor to Chairman PCB Aamir Mir and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Javed Murtaza said while holding a press conference in Lahore on Thursday that after the successful holding of the Champions Trophy, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s position regarding the revenue generated from it has come to light.
Aamir Mir said that the propaganda of the Indian media which is being done at present is to be exposed, the anti-Pakistan media is running a shop of lies, it is a pity that the Pakistani media has also run this.
He said that he had estimated a profit of two billion rupees, but the profit is estimated to be three billion rupees. The profit was higher than expected. This profit was obtained from gate money and ground fees. There was no money from the PCB for the ICC Champions Trophy.
He said that all audits are yet to be conducted, but despite this, a profit of three billion has been estimated, the PCB has paid four billion rupees in taxes to the government, the ICC has borne all the expenses, the ICC has made a budget of 70 million dollars.
Amir Mir said that the PCB’s money is not decreasing but increasing, the PCB successfully organized the Champions Trophy, all the big teams played cricket in Pakistan, Chairman Mohsin Naqvi took on the difficult task of up-gradation of the grounds and then completed it, the Gaddafi Stadium is 90 percent new and is an asset of the country.
On this occasion, Javed Murtaza said that the PCB did not suffer any financial loss, there was a profit of 10 billion in the fiscal year 2023 and 24, the budget for stadiums was up to 18 billion rupees.
He said that the budget for the two phases was 18 billion, the first phase was 12.80 billion, we have become financially strong overall, this was an ICC event organized by the PCB.
Javed Murtaza said that the stadiums have been built not only for the Champions Trophy but for the next 30 years, the PCB is financially stable.
