KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will posthumously induct legendary cricketer Hanif Mohammad into its Hall of Fame on Wednesday. His son, Shoaib Mohammad, will receive the commemorative plaque and cap at the ceremony.
Delayed Induction
Hanif Mohammad was among the initial inductees announced in 2021, but his formal induction was delayed due to management changes and scheduling conflicts.
A PCB official told Reuters:
“Yes, but due to various reasons—sometimes due to non-availabilities and sometimes due to management changes—this couldn’t take place earlier.”
The ceremony will be held during Pakistan’s triangular series match against South Africa in Karachi, which also marks the first international match in the city since May 2023.
Other Inductions After 2025 Champions Trophy
Former cricketers Saeed Anwar and Mushtaq Mohammad will also be inducted into the PCB Hall of Fame, but their ceremonies have been postponed until after the 2025 Champions Trophy due to their unavailability.
- Saeed Anwar was unavailable due to prior commitments
- Mushtaq Mohammad is currently overseas
“Their inductions will take place after CT25 as and when they are available,” the source added.
Hanif Mohammad’s Legacy
Known as the ‘Little Master’, Hanif Mohammad was one of Pakistan’s greatest cricketers, famous for his record-breaking 337-run innings against the West Indies in 1958, the longest Test innings ever played. His contributions laid the foundation for Pakistan’s cricketing success.
His induction into the Hall of Fame is a long-awaited tribute to his legendary career.
