Business and economic reporting PIC Workshop
Executive Editor TFD Manzar Naqvi highlights modern day tools on financial journalism
KARACHI: Two Days training workshop on Business & Economics Reporting in Karachi Press Club was organized by Pakistan Information Center (PIC), a project by the Press Information Department (PID) Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
During the two-day workshop, journalists from various newspapers, TV channels and websites of the Sindh Province, particularly from Karachi were trained on ‘Business & Economics Reporting’. Journalists were taught timely and fast Business reporting tools.
Participants also learnt about the dynamics of economy at national and international levels.
Dr Ghulam Murtaza Khuhro, the economist and lawyer, trained journalists and gave them examples to practise best business & economics reporting.
Karachi Press Club (KPC) Secretary General Rizwan Bhatti was the guest speaker on the first day of the training workshop. He said that journalists should give priority to the country and the state while reporting on economy and business. The journalists should not give any news that has a bad impact on country’s economy, he added.
On the last day of the workshop, Fazil Jamili, President Karachi Press Club (KPC) and Digital Editor of Jang & Geo, also gave a lecture to journalists and explained the importance of Business & Economics Reporting. He also lauded PID for launching a project like PIC and hoped that it would enhance the professionalism of journalists.
On the second day of the workshop the Executive Editor of The Financial Daily Manzar Naqvi also addressed the training program and highlighted modern day tools on financial journalism. He said that reporters often made errors while quoting figures. Mr. Naqvi also put emphasis on detailed studies of economic terminology and economic literature by the reporters of economic beat. He also advised the participants that they should visit different financial public institutions like PSX, SBP, chambers of commerce & industry etc in order to understand their scope and objectives.
At the end of the workshop, Director PID Muhammad Khalid Mairaj Abbasi presented an honorary shield to Trainer Dr. Ghulam Murtaza Khuhro and distributed certificates among all the trainees. He said that PID always has worked for the betterment of journalists and journalistic institutions. Deputy Director PID Nouman Ahmed, PIC In charge Mr. Raheem Bux, PID focal person PIC Mr. Qasim Faruq, and PIC team also attended the workshop.
