Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the formation of a special subcommittee to improve the efficiency of Pakistan’s embassies worldwide, with Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar overseeing the initiative.
An official notification confirmed that Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Bilal Azhar Kayani will serve as the convener of the eight-member subcommittee, which is set to hold its first meeting tomorrow.
The subcommittee includes additional secretaries from the ministries of Interior, Commerce, Finance, and Information and Broadcasting, along with representatives from the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Institutional Reforms Cell under the Cabinet Division.
Its primary task is to evaluate the structure, challenges, and overall performance of Pakistan’s embassies. Ambassadors will be consulted individually to provide insights and recommendations. The committee will also assess the political and economic contributions of diplomatic missions.
Additionally, it will review staffing levels and work distribution across various countries, proposing measures to enhance operational efficiency. Reforms will be suggested in line with evolving global dynamics and Pakistan’s strategic priorities.
To ensure accountability, mechanisms will be introduced for evaluating embassy and diplomat performance. The subcommittee may also seek input from experts or experienced diplomats as needed.
Pakistani ambassadors stationed abroad have been instructed to fully cooperate with the subcommittee as it carries out its review and restructuring efforts.
