ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday launched a Rs20 billion Ramadan relief package, aiming to assist four million families—benefiting around 20 million people—within the first ten days of Ramadan.
Key Features of the Relief Package
- Each family will receive Rs5,000 through digital wallets.
- Total allocation: Rs20 billion, a significant increase from Rs7 billion last year.
- Digital disbursement system developed with the support of SBP, NADRA, BISP, and tech companies.
- 600 stalls to be set up nationwide, providing subsidized sugar at Rs130 per kg.
Government’s Anti-Corruption & Economic Reforms
PM Shehbaz emphasized the government’s efforts to tackle corruption and litigation delays, revealing that Rs500 billion worth of cases remain stuck in courts. He also highlighted:
- Sindh High Court’s recent decision led to a Rs23 billion recovery from a stay case.
- The privatization of the Utility Stores Corporation to eliminate inefficiencies and introduce a transparent, digital system.
- Plans to shut down loss-making government entities.
Implementation & Foreign Support
Minister for Industries & Production Rana Tanveer Hussain lauded the authorities for sanctioning the package within 20 days. The foolproof digital mechanism will ensure swift and transparent transfers to deserving families.
PM Shehbaz also thanked international partners for their financial and technical support, recognizing their commitment to social welfare initiatives in Pakistan.
