ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has strongly criticized an article written by former prime minister Imran Khan in Time magazine, calling it a deliberate attempt to damage Pakistan’s global reputation.
PML-N’s Response
- Irfan Siddiqui, the PML-N parliamentary leader in the Senate, condemned the article in a statement on X (formerly Twitter), labeling it as misleading and baseless.
- He specifically refuted Imran Khan’s claim that he was offered house arrest after being removed from Adiala Jail during negotiations.
- Siddiqui challenged Khan to disclose who allegedly made this offer, when it was made, and through whom it was communicated.
Accusations Against Khan
- The Senate Foreign Affairs Committee chairman accused Khan of unfairly portraying Pakistan as being in a “dark era.”
- He argued that the article unjustly targeted the government, judiciary, armed forces, and state institutions, painting a distorted picture of the country’s current political landscape.
Political Tensions Escalate
This reaction comes amid ongoing political and legal battles between the PML-N-led government and the PTI leadership, with both sides blaming each other for Pakistan’s economic and political challenges.
